The fall semester is back in full swing, and with that comes the Pi Alpha Xi fall plant sale! Pi Alpha Xi, or PAX, has two plant sales every year at which they sell trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, annuals, vegetables, houseplants and more. Profits are donated to horticultural non-profits, charities, and scholarships. This year will mark the 34th year since PAX started having its sales. Continue reading

Announcing Ms. Rhonda Sherman
The Department of Horticultural Science is pleased to announce that Ms. Rhonda Sherman, Extension Specialist from the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, will become a member of our department on September 1, 2016. Rhonda holds a 100% Extension appointment and her areas of expertise are vermicomposting, composting, recycling and waste reduction. You may also be familiar with the annual NC State Vermiculture Conference coordinated and run by Rhonda. Many thanks to Anne Spafford for arranging a seminar and “meet and greet” opportunity for us in Kilgore Hall to become acquainted with Rhonda and her work. Dole Named as Interim Associate Dean and Director for Academic Programs
On Monday, January 25, 2016, Dean Richard Linton named Dr. John Dole, Interim Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs, starting March 1. Dole replaces Sam Pardue who will become the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. Filling Dr. Dole’s role in Horticultural Science on an interim basis is Assistant Head, Dr. Wayne G. Buhler. Continue reading
