Graduate Student Accolades

The Department of Horticultural Science congratulates the following graduate students on their recent accolades and honors. Many of the students recently participated in the Southern Weed Science Society Meeting in Savannah Georgia and returned with numerous honors.

  • Sushila Chaudhari (co-advised by Katie Jennings and David Monks) was awarded the Outstanding PhD Student Award at the Southern Weed Science Society Meeting in Savannah Georgia.
  • Nick Basinger (advised by Katie Jennings) won 1st place in the paper presentation contest at the Southern Weed Science Society Meeting in Savannah Georgia with his paper, “Influence of Ground Cover Competition on Growth, Yield, and Berry Quality in Cabernet Franc Grape”.
  • Matt Inman (co-advised by Katie Jennings and David Jordan) won 1st place in the paper competition at the Southern Weed Science Society Meeting in Savannah Georgia with his paper, “Change in Palmer amaranth Population in Cotton Following Four Years of Glyphosate and Dicamba”.
  • We would like to welcome Matt Bertucci to the Vegetable and Small Fruit Weed Science group. He will be working on his PhD with Katie Jennings and David Monks on the competitiveness and herbicide tolerance of grafted watermelon.
  • Sam McGowen (advised by Katie Jennings) has been selected to participate in the Trellis Project with the Center for Agricultural Research and Development in Nepal. Sam will be providing training on pesticide safety, pesticide application, and handling and disposal to 180 commercial vegetable farmers.
